Welcome to Save the Planet with Plastic Girl - blog officially launches April 1, 2020

This blog will be written by the author of Plastic Girl, Jessica Maison, that’s me! I am a writer, but I am also a daughter, a partner, a friend, a mother of two fierce daughters, and a wolf mother (okay, Mars is a dog but I think of her as a wolf.) I worked with young people for a long time doing STEAM/STEM, writing, garden, and environmental education workshops, and continue to do so as a volunteer. I want to connect my work as an author to that work. I also care deeply about working together to reduce the harmful consequences of climate change. Writing Plastic Girl and this blog are just a few things that I do regarding this issue. I also organize community clean-ups, fundraise, and work and teach in the school/community garden as well as make those phone calls and attend climate marches. Even then, there’s so much more to do, and we can’t do it alone. In that spirit, I am going to be working with you, my readers, to keep up the fight, but also build a community of storytellers, makers, and activists who support each other’s good works. Also, we should have fun along the way.

My daughters inspired the characters, Eva and Iris, and they inspire me to continue to fight for a better world every day. So, every month, with their help, I will create a post that includes an engaging activity to reuse an item at home that you would normally throw away, one environmental action item to complete (writing a letter, sending an e-mail or making a phone call), and a showcase of an organization that is doing great work to battle the climate crisis. The first official post will go up on April 1, 2020. Please subscribe to the Wicked Tree Press mailing list to be updated when a new post goes live.

I can’t wait to do these activities and action items with you and my daughters. Until then, keeping reading and standing up for what you believe in.
